Gassco chooses Sopra Steria as strategic IT partner

| minute read

Gassco ensures that natural gas from Norway is transported to millions of Europeans. Secure and efficient digital solutions are crucial to this mission.

Natural gas from Norway is used for cooking, heating, transport and production throughout Europe, and covers around 30 percent of natural gas consumption in the EU. Gassco receives natural gas from about 60 fields on the Norwegian continental shelf and transports it to markets in Europe via an 8600-kilometre pipeline system on the seabed. The length of the pipes corresponds to the distance from Oslo to Bangkok! From the northernmost fields, it takes five days for the gas to reach Germany.

Preparing for the future

Gassco is responsible for ensuring that natural gas from the Norwegian continental shelf always reaches the European market in the right quantity, quality and time. Now they have chosen Sopra Steria as a strategic partner to develop the IT solutions of the future.

"We are securing the gas's journey from field to market and at the same time planning for the future. Our task is to find new effective solutions. We will safeguard today's energy supply and at the same time rig the gas infrastructure for the energy transition that is coming. Therefore, it is important that IT solutions are built and adapted to the future. We're pleased that Sopra Steria wants to work with us on this," says Frode Leversund, Gassco's chief executive.

Innovation, operations and infrastructure

Sopra Steria has been chosen as a supplier in three areas: IT infrastructure, security and application operation, development and management. This collaboration will ensure continued safe operations, growth and innovation.

Kjell Rusti, chief executive of Sopra Steria, is grateful that Gassco has chosen Sopra Steria as its digital transformation partner.

"Gassco delivers one of the most socially critical functions in Europe, especially with the current geopolitical situation. We look forward to creating value for the company by contributing to their digital strategy. This work will also develop us as a company and strengthen our focus on Haugalandet," says Rusti.
