In a rapidly evolving financial sector, the importance of innovation and digital transformation cannot be overstated. Febelfin Academy, the training centre for professionals working in the broad financial sector in Belgium, has been at the forefront of
this transformation. In collaboration with Sopra Steria, they embarked on a five-year journey to create a cutting-edge Learning Management System (LMS) platform. This customer case explores their path of continuous improvement and how Sopra Steria
played an important role in achieving their goals.
A visionary approach
Five years ago, Febelfin Academy initiated the development of a new learning platform. They recognised the need to adapt and evolve continuously to address changes in legislation, technological advancements, and the shift to digital learning accelerated
by the COVID-19 pandemic. A current team of two dedicated Sopra Steria developers regularly make enhancements to the platform, seeking to continuously improve the learning experience. This MyFA platform supports a large range of learning formats such
as live webinars, on-demand webinars, interactive e-learnings, blended trainings and certified online exams.
Empowering self-led learning
One of the key challenges faced was empowering students to take control of their learning journeys. In the last two years, significant strides were made in this direction. New functionalities were introduced, allowing students to plan their learning paths,
manage their learning curve, and become self-directed learners. This shift was in response to the changing needs of clients who increasingly wanted their students to be more autonomous in their learning processes.
In 2022, Febelfin Academy reached nearly 34.000 active users with its learning solutions, marking three years of consistent 10% growth.
Technical challenges and scalability
With over 122.000 dedicated users and growing daily, the platform needed to ensure a seamless user experience while adapting to the dynamics of the financial industry. More specifically, the solution comprehends a custom LMS that's split into three
technological environments:
- IDP Identity Provider: This provider includes all the login details. Every communication travels through the IDP and is authorised by it.
- LMS Platform: This platform contains the 'working' data of the application. The different courses and trajectories are configured here. The platform data can be edited and viewed in each of the management boards.
- QA Platform: This environment makes taking tests and exams possible. It differs from the LMS Platform to avoid interruptions. This set-up also makes it possible to scale each environment individually to, for example, process different amounts
of users.
It was crucial to maintain a balance between keeping the platform accessible for all users, regardless of their technical proficiency, and introducing advanced features. Additionally, the platform expanded to an open B2B model, offering an API for
other companies to integrate the platform into their systems, reducing manual work and streamlining enrolment processes. The future ambition for the platform is to further expand this API management.
