To keep the equilibrium in the energy net, it is vital to align the supply and demand of energy. Days with a lot of wind or sunshine cause peaks in generating energy. The balance can be disrupted if these peaks come at a moment of less demand.
To prevent this, curtailment can be used. This means temporarily lessening the capacity of solar parks or wind turbines, keeping the energy net balanced.
To apply this in practice for a solar park, Vandebron, working with Sopra Steria and KPN, had come up with a solution. The three parties have shared their knowledge and expertise about solar energy, software development, data connectivity, and the Internet of Things with each other to accomplish this.
The end result of this cooperation is an innovative solution, keeping the energy net balanced by using solar curtailment. On top of this, the solution was realized in such a way that it can be implemented in all solar parks in the Netherlands and even Europe.
