The knowledge access revolution: How LLMs are driving company value and employee growth

Large language models (LLMs) are transforming not only how companies access information, boosting efficiency, but they are also unlocking employee growth, driving career advancement, and enabling them to command higher salaries.

The workplace of the future has arrived, and it’s powered by large language models (LLMs).

These sophisticated AI tools are transforming how companies and employees interact with information, but they offer far more than just efficiency gains. They’re quietly reshaping careers, too.

The typical corporate worker spends hours each week searching for data, navigating clunky systems, or seeking answers from colleagues. LLMs change all that. They streamline information retrieval, answering questions in seconds with natural language. But here’s the real twist: it’s employees who benefit the most.

The profound impact that this kind of AI-enhanced knowledge access – allowing employees to more easily interact with company datasets – is one of the key themes my colleagues Paul Verhaar, Harold Selman and myself will be exploring at next month’s World Summit AI 2024 in Amsterdam, where we will be giving a keynote address.

LLMs free employees from mundane tasks, creating space for personal and professional growth. When workers aren’t bogged down by endless data searches, they can focus on meaningful activities — whether that’s learning new skills, attending webinars, or mastering complex subjects in their field.

By saving time, LLMs allow employees to stay current, develop expertise, and ultimately offer more sophisticated services. As workers grow more efficient, they become more valuable. And that increased value often translates into higher salaries and better career prospects, both inside and outside the company.

What’s surprising to many is how this benefits both sides. From a company’s perspective, employees who are continuously learning are assets. They can handle more challenging projects, drive innovation, and contribute to high-level decision-making—all while remaining more engaged and satisfied.

LLMs give employees the edge to grow

One of the most common concerns about automation is the fear of job loss. But for knowledge workers, LLMs are more likely to complement, not replace, their roles. These models automate routine processes, freeing employees to focus on areas where human input is most valuable.

The tasks LLMs automate are often the most repetitive and unfulfilling. When employees no longer need to waste time on mundane searches or admin, they can invest energy into creative problem-solving, strategic thinking, and client relationship management—the skills that drive business success.

In my own experience, I’ve seen how Sopra Steria’s own in-house developed LLM tools, such as our consulting division Next’s Cedric, knowledge access solution has transformed the workplace.

Colleagues who were once buried in admin are now thriving, contributing to strategic projects, and expanding their expertise. Their career growth has followed naturally, and their earning potential has increased.

Companies stand to benefit enormously, too. By investing in LLM technology, they unlock the full potential of their workforce. Employees who are able to grow and upskill become more capable, more engaged, and more likely to contribute to high-impact work.

The ripple effect is undeniable. A company that enables its workers to spend time on learning and development reaps the rewards of innovation and efficiency. At the same time, employees advance their careers, command higher salaries, and feel more fulfilled.

LLMs unlock career potential and company value

LLMs don’t just enhance efficiency; they accelerate careers. Employees who continuously learn are positioned to deliver more complex, higher-quality services, becoming more marketable in the process. Over time, this raises their value both to their current employer and in the broader job market.

For companies, this is a clear win. The most valuable employees are those who not only execute tasks but also grow their knowledge and skills. By using LLMs, businesses create a feedback loop of growth and efficiency, where both the employee and the organisation thrive.

This symbiotic relationship between LLMs, employees, and companies is creating new possibilities for everyone involved. Employees gain opportunities for personal development, while companies enjoy a more skilled, motivated, and efficient workforce. It’s a win-win situation that few saw coming.

In the end, LLMs aren’t just about saving time or cutting costs—they’re about unlocking potential. As companies adopt these tools, they give employees the freedom to grow, learn, and offer more value, creating a brighter future for all.
